Week 3 Blog Entry

This week has been something else for me. Since I'm taking both online and in-class classes, it's kind of merged together in my mind.

The first assignment we had to do, on organizational systems, I royally messed up. I had a trip sprung on me for Thursday by my Mother, and I got home on Friday...I hadn't checked the schedule, and had no idea an assignment was due. I realized it on Saturday...but it was already late, so I put it off. I ended up doing it during a break in my history class on Monday. Not the best way to do it.

The second assignment on databases, I actually had problems with it. Proquest gave me problems, but I managed to make it work...I had trouble with some of the terms, and I have no idea why. I went off results I came up with, and my prior experiences using resources like proquest in my answer.

The big issue is the final two assignments. I can't do them. I asked the question earlier in this class during first week about going to an academic library...The answer is we had to and not to supplement it with something like Timberland...but I live in Long Beach, WA. I live on an isolated Peninsula hours away from the main campus. I even asked Teri Dodson, who runs the center here and she had no idea what I could do for this. Traveling to the campus is completely out of the realm of possibility, and even getting to Astoria to the college there would be right now. I don't drive, and there's no way I can afford to pay gas and take time out of someone else's day to take me up there. It's not feasable for me.

I THOUGHT about using my skills at BS to make something up...but I thought that'd be easily noticible, and on top of that, it'd be lying. I don't like lying. So...Once again, for the third week in a row, it looks like I'm going to have to take the hit. I don't think Ican take many more of these though.

Anyway, that's week 3 in a nut shell.

Chris: I don't understand why you say you couldn't do the Library Catalog assignment. You don't actually need to go to a library to find three books since you can access the catalog remotely. I would suggest still trying to do this assignment since you will need to include at least two books in your pathfinder.
